Mitch Daniels decision to defund abortion clinics in Indiana is an interesting step. The Left talks about the broad scope of services offered by Planned Parenthood and the need to continue to expand these services to aid the care of women. Perhaps a simple answer to their request is for Anti-Abortion forces to develop a pool of matching funds that augment health clinic budgets if those clinics stop offering abortion services. At that point, the left would be stuck with defending just the abortion services argument, which is a loser with independents and the right.
